HVAC by city

HVAC in New Jersey has a long, sticky cooling season and a winter that still freezes the northern and inland towns. Many older houses and two-families run on a boiler and radiators, with a window unit doing August. Many detached houses run on a furnace and ducts, with a condenser on a small side yard. Shore air is hard on outdoor equipment. A dead heating plant in January is urgent. A house that will not cool in a humid week is not a small complaint either. Say which one you are living in.

Name the machine. Boiler, furnace, window unit, sleeve, or equipment that serves more than one flat. A cold radiator while the rest of the house is hot is not the same call as a furnace that will not light. A condenser buried in a narrow side yard, coated in salt, or short-cycling is not a radiator problem. Filters, a blocked return, and a flue that no longer drafts can imitate a failed system. Ask what gets ruled out before the whole plant is condemned.

Basements complicate the work. Equipment sits low, and a wet basement is common after a hard rain. Say if the boiler or furnace has been standing in water. Say if condensate from cooling is dumping where it should not. In a two-family, ask who can shut the system down if both flats share it. Combustion air and the chimney matter on older fuel-burning equipment tucked into a tight cellar. Do not describe a radiator house as if it had ducts.

If the question is replacement, say the fuel and whether you have radiators or registers. Ask whether indoor and outdoor pieces are being matched if you have central cooling. Ask about the flue and about a condensate line that can freeze on the inland side of the state. A no-heat call and a seasonal checkup are different. Say whether you are cold or hot right now, and whether the problem is the whole building or one room.

Shore corrosion, a city boiler, and a suburban furnace do not share a script. HVAC in New Jersey starts with the machine in your basement or your window and the season that beat it. Call the number on this page.
