Service types

Lawn maintenance

Mowing, edging, and seasonal cleanup on a defined schedule.

Questions to ask

  • How often is the visit, and what is skipped in drought or in a wet week?
  • Are clippings mulched or removed?
  • Is leaf cleanup included or priced as extra seasonal work?

Landscape design and installation

Beds, plantings, mulch, and small grading that is not a civil engineering project.

Questions to ask

  • Are plant sizes specified, and who replaces a plant that dies in the establishment period?
  • Does the work change grade against the house?
  • Is irrigation part of this contract or a later one?

Tree and shrub care

Pruning, shrub removal, and the line between that work and tree removal.

Questions to ask

  • Is the work pruning, or is it removal and stump grinding?
  • How are limbs kept off the roof and the lines?
  • Is debris hauled away?

Irrigation

Sprinkler and drip repairs, seasonal startup, and winterization where winters freeze.

Questions to ask

  • Is this a repair of heads and valves, or a new zone?
  • Who locates the existing lines before digging?
  • Is a backflow device required locally, and is the test included?

For homeowners

  • Get the visit frequency in the contract. 'Weekly in season' means different months in different climates.
  • Grading that traps water against the foundation is a building problem, not only a planting problem. Say that out loud when you review a plan.
  • Plant warranties usually have a watering obligation. Read who is responsible after the crew leaves.

Questions

What do I say when I call?

Mow, cleanup, new beds, or sprinklers, and how big the yard is.

Do I need a drawing first?

No. Call and describe it. A drawing can come after someone sees the lot.
