More on Windows

Windows in Oklahoma City face a long fetch of wind and a hail habit that does not care about your blinds. On open lots the south and west glass takes stones, sun, and grit. Screens fail first. Then outer panes. Then the weep holes pack with red dirt and hold water against the frame. In Heritage Hills, Mesta Park, and similar older streets, wood units under trees fail differently: dried joints, soft stools, and wind-driven rain at a meeting rail.

Name the type and the count. A cracked picture window on a brick ranch is not a fogged bath sash in a bungalow, and it is not a whole elevation of original wood. Say how many openings misbehave and which rooms. If hail did it, say whether the screen is torn and the glass is cracked or only the screen died. Those facts change the job and they change what a claim needs to see.

Photograph cracks before you clean up the glass. If rain is coming in, you can stop the water without tossing the evidence. A wet stool or a bubble in the drywall below the sill means the wind pushed water past the glass, not merely that a stone chipped it. Mention that. Also mention stuck tracks full of dirt, because a sash that will not lock will not keep the next gust out.

Bath windows and garage-side windows deserve their own sentence. A shower window on a south wall leaks in a blowing rain and rots the return nobody wanted to open. A window over a sink on the west cooks and fogs. You do not need brand names. You need the wall, the material, and whether the damage is impact, fog, or a soft frame.

Oklahoma City will sand and strike the same elevation again. Walk it, count it, and call with the inventory. Say the part of town so the exposure makes sense. Call the number on this page.
